In celebration of the 40th anniversary of Earth Day on April 22, Travelzoo is helping eco-conscious travelers stay at “green” hotels without spending too much green. With many consumers wary of faux-environmental “greenwashing” practices, hotels are proving their eco-friendliness by becoming certified by the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification system. Travelzoo’s exclusive Earth Day hotel deals page, featuring Travelzoo-tested deals only from LEED-certified hotels, provides travelers with a reliable resource for easy and affordable eco-travel deals.
Travelers are becoming more environmentally-conscious, as Travelzoo’s recent survey found that more than 9 in 10 (91 percent) of travelers would prefer to stay at a LEED-certified hotel over one that is not, all things being equal. However, more than one-fifth of travelers (22 percent) said they do not always stay at green hotels every time they travel because they do not have time to research the properties’ eco-friendly offerings. An additional 22 percent said they find LEED-certified properties are not within their budget. The good news for travelers is Travelzoo manually hand-picks, qualifies and tests all deals to find the best value for consumers, and for a limited time only, a special page of Travelzoo-tested and approved eco-friendly hotel deals will be available.
Although half of travelers (50 percent) would not pay extra money to stay at a LEED-certified hotel over a regular one, 37 percent would be willing to pay an extra $10 per night, 10 percent would pay an extra $50 and 3 percent would be willing to dole out an extra $100 or more. However, with Travelzoo’s exclusive deals, you can save the earth and save money.
